Apparently the Versus network is no longer broadcasting Saturday’s game. Steve Grinczel reports the game will not be available to Comcast subscribers. It will be broadcast on something called BYUTV and will be available on the two satellite systems and through streaming video.
So we’ll see how that works . . .
This season’s been so frustrating when it comes to simply wanting to watch a game. I’m maintaining my Comcast just because I don’t want to deal with an ugly dish in town, lots of trees, etc. (valid or not that’s my reasoning). It figures that I won’t be home anyway tomorrow when there’s a streaming source available. Bah.
BYU-TV wanted to install software on my computer so I could see their feed. I haven’t had other streaming sites do this and I decided that I didn’t want Mormon software on my system.
I’m in the same boat with Spartalytical, I have a tree-lined yard that prevents the installation of a dish. I find dishes to be ugly and I already have enough TV selection. Since the university and conference have decided to put the sports programs behind a wall I just don’t watch.
That’s interesting about the software requirement. Do you have an older machine that might have an older version of Media Player? I went to their site and it fired right up for me. So to that extent, I wouldn’t necessarily be afraid of whatever they’ve got. My computer’s only a couple years old. Just throwing out a possibility.
Same boat here. Tree-lined backyard. Really don’t want to put up a dish.
From what I’ve read, it seems that Comcast deserves more of the blame than the Big Ten. BTN sounds like a pretty good product–all the local games we’re used to plus content from other Big Ten markets we wouldn’t get otherwise. Comcast certainly gives us a lot of other channels that don’t have all that much local appeal (the Comcast-owned Versus network being a prime example).
But in the end, this is an economic issue, not a moral issue. I have to believe the two sides will be forced to make a deal at some point in the next year. Comcast is losing too many subscribers. The BTN doesn’t have enough people with access to their programming. If they don’t make a deal by basketball season next year, then I’ll seriously have to think about switching.
Spartalytical, I tried the BYU TV feed on my desktop system without any software trying to be installed. I found the full screen view to be too blurry to be enjoyable. The picture was fine at about 4 inches square.
As for me, within the hour I will be departing to see one of the live games in my area. I refuse to watch even MSU basketball under these circumstances.
