The Nittany lions take town the Spartans, 85-76.
One of the benefits of starting this blog is that it’s made me marginally less emotional about MSU’s level of performance from game to game. But this one hurts and enrages. I only heard the second half on the radio, so I can’t offer a detailed critique. But I just don’t see how you give up 85 points in 67 possessions to a team with such limited offensive options.
I suppose Penn State getting 51 free throw attempts has something to do. That is not a typo: fifty-one.
And what are the odds of MSU losing any game in which it only turns the ball over 10 times?
The BTN viewers will have to fill in the blanks on how this one escaped our Spartans. Unofficial box score here.
I now consider our chances of winning the Big Ten title to be precisely zero. We’ve played four conference road games now–all against the bottom six teams in the conference–and come away just 2-2. We have five conference road games remaining–four of them against the four other top-tier teams in the conference plus a game against an Illinois team that easily could have beaten us Wednesday night. We’ll be lucky to win two of those five games.
Tom Izzo sounds like a defeated man on the radio right now. “I don’t know if you can lose to Iowa and Penn State and still be a contender. Let’s be honest.”
