Eric Lacy, a top-notch reporter for the Detroit News, was somehow lucky enough to get transferred from the U-M beat to the MSU beat. He sat down for an in-depth interview with Tom Izzo this week. It’s a great read–illustrating all the things we love about Izzo: candor, energy, loyalty.
Based on this teaser from the full article, hopefully we’re done with offseason NBA speculation regarding Izzo:
When you look at those three major aspects — the AD, football and basketball — the thought of me being here 10 years with somebody excites me. I’ve been here more than 13 years and have had five ADs and five football coaches. In 13 years, do you think that’s any fun for a guy that loves football and wants to be a program guy?
I just really want to win another national championship. I really want to separate our school and our program (from others).
I’ll drink to that.
Update: Andy Katz has an article up with some candid comments from Izzo, as well. He talks about Roe’s workout earlier this week, points to Roe/Allen/Summers as the key players on both offense and defense, and offers up this warning:
“We may take our lumps in November and December but we have to make sure he doesn’t deteriorate and get him better for January, February and March,” Izzo said. “We’ve got the depth and the talent but Roe is the difference-maker with Morgan.
